Over one tonne of non-perishable food items was donated to the Mayor of Aylesbury’s Ten Tonne Challenge in aid of Aylesbury Foodbank.

The donations came from music fans who had tickets to see Aylesbury’s own and internationally known rock group, Marillion on Saturday 24 September at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre.

The band played to an audience that had been invited to donate a tin or two to the Mayor’s charity challenge ahead of their homecoming performance.

The Mayor of Aylesbury, Cllr Tim Dixon, said: “Thank you to all who donated to the challenge and helped us reach over one tonne of donations which will greatly support the residents of Aylesbury.

“Not only that, but concert-goers kindly donated a total of £1,500 for the foodbank. I am so grateful to Marillion who invited the Foodbank to be part of their special homecoming evening and for their donation.

“Thank you also to Waitrose Aylesbury for their amazing support and a special thank you to Christelle Howell for your effort and brilliance. You are a true unsung hero.”

The Town Mayor hopes to receive ten tonnes worth of non-perishable items for Aylesbury Foodbank before the end of his mayoral year in May 2023. There are a number of donation stations around Aylesbury where you can donate food items. Find out where they are.
