The countdown to Christmas continued in Aylesbury with the Mayor of Aylesbury’s Carol Service on Sunday 4 December. This popular civic event was attended by local dignitaries, representatives of local groups, local councillors and residents. The Mayor of Aylesbury, Cllr Tim Dixon, led the mayoral civic procession from the Town Hall to St Mary’s Church.
The service was led by Fr Doug Zimmerman. Readings were given by Leader of Aylesbury Town Council, Cllr Richard Lloyd, High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, Debbie Brock DL, Town Clerk, Keith Gray JP, Chairman of Buckinghamshire Council, Cllr Dev Dhillion, HH Judge Sheridan DL, Honorary Recorder of Aylesbury and Heather-Joy Garrett from Aylesbury Foodbank.
Carols were performed by Aylesbury Music Centre, Bedgrove Junior School Choir, St Mary’s Church Choir with soloist Libby Hough. Music was performed by Aylesbury Concert Band.
Mulled wine and mince pies were kindly donated by Waitrose Aylesbury, Tesco Broadfields and Morrisons Aylesbury and were served by the Aylesbury Lions Club.
Donations were collected in aid of the Town Mayor’s charities of the year, Emmett’s Genies and Aylesbury Foodbank. Many of the congregation attending kindly donated items to the Mayor’s 10 Tonne Challenge, a project led by the Town Mayor which aims to collect 10 tonnes of donated food for the Foodbank during his mayoral year.
The Town Council would like to thank Fr Doug Zimmerman, Kenton Brigden and St Mary‘s Church Choir, Mace Bearer C/Sgt David Knowles, Brendan Gudgeon and Aylesbury Concert Band, Bedgrove Junior School’s Music Coordinator Kate Warner and students and staff, Fay Hayhurst and Aylesbury Music Centre Choir, members of Aylesbury Lions, James Iyengar and the Moonlight Productions team and all volunteers.
