The Aylesbury in Bloom Garden Competition returns this springtime, inviting gardeners of all skill levels to showcase their green thumbs. Organised by Aylesbury Town Council, this annual event encourages residents, organisations, businesses and schools in the parish of Aylesbury to showcase their floral flair.

Participants are encouraged to begin planning their plots as the warmer weather approaches as judges are due to visit gardens in June, July and August.

Categories are:

  • For residents: Front Garden, Back Garden, Balcony Garden, Wildlife Garden, Edible Garden
  • For businesses and organisations: Communal Garden, Edible Communal Garden
  • For schools: Learning/Educational Garden, Container Garden, Wildlife Garden, Edible Garden. This year, schools are invited to participate in the new Creative Cress Competition, adding a fun and educational twist.

All entrants are invited to an awards evening and will receive a certificate with a bronze, silver, silver gilt, or gold award.

Previous winner Gold Award winner, Henk Swanepoel, said: “For anyone thinking about entering the competition for the first time, I would say just do it! It’s awesome fun and hugely rewarding.

“My advice would be to make sure you have a variety of plants so that your garden looks great in the winter as well. It’s lovely to work towards a goal and plan a garden accordingly – it’s great fun! Bravo Aylesbury Town Council for a wonderful initiative!”

The judges will also grant commendations and present the following special awards:

  • Rose Bowl: Best overall garden in the residents’ class
  • Mayor’s Cup: Best overall communal garden in organisations and businesses class
  • Spade Award: Best overall winner in the schools’ class

The awards evening with take place on Thursday 27 June for schools and Thursday 26 September for residents, businesses and organisations.

The competition is open to residents, organisations and schools in the parish of Aylesbury only.
