Aylesbury’s new Mayor was made at Aylesbury Town Council’s Annual Meeting on Thursday 9 May at the Town Hall.

Cllr Alan Sherwell has been elected as Town Mayor.

Cllr Nidhi Mehta has been elected as Deputy Town Mayor and Cllr Richard Lloyd has been elected as Leader of the Council.

Mayor of Aylesbury, Cllr Alan Sherwell, said: “Becoming Mayor is a great honour but also a great responsibility. The Mayoralty has existed for more than 100 years; I am just its custodian for 12 months. It is a symbol of Aylesbury, signalling we are a single community, although with many different strands deserving to be celebrated.

“The role is also to bring people together – Aylesbury as a whole and organisations (charitable and not) who work in similar areas. Two priorities for me are education (youth and adult) and young people generally. So, I have chosen Pace as my chosen charity of the year. Pace provides outstanding services to children with neurodisability but could do even more with greater resources.”

The Town Mayor and Deputy Town Mayor will be formally inaugurated at the Town Council’s Mayor Making ceremony on Friday 17 May.
