The official inauguration of Aylesbury’s new Town Mayor and Deputy Town Mayor took place on Friday 17 May at Aylesbury College.

The ceremony, held annually, inaugurated the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Aylesbury. Cllr Alan Sherwell is the new Mayor of Aylesbury for 2024-25 and Cllr Nidhi Mehta is the new Deputy Mayor.

Former Mayor, Cllr Steven Lambert, presented the Freda Roberts Community Award to Mr Steven Charman, a teacher from Turnfurlong Junior School. Mr Charman was recognised for his tireless efforts in inspiring young people to engage with the local community, particularly through his work with Aylesbury Foodbank. The award is given annually to commend individuals who dedicated their lives to their community reflecting the legacy of the late Mrs Freda Roberts MBE, a stalwart of the Aylesbury community who passed away in 2021.

To conclude his 2023-24 mayoral year, Councillor Steven Lambert presented cheques to his chosen charities, Youth Concern and Age UK Bucks, with each charity receiving a total of £7,600.

In his acceptance speech, the new Town Mayor, Cllr Alan Sherwell, announced Pace as his chosen charity of the year.

The Bard of Aylesbury, Laike Twiss, concluded the ceremony with a poem reflecting on the former Mayor, Cllr Steven Lambert’s, year of mayoralty.
