Aylesbury Town Council Allotment Sites
Our allotment plots are currently all occupied. Complete the waiting list form.
With ‘beginners’ in mind, we are endeavouring to provide more 2.5 pole plots on all sites, to give the new allotment gardener a manageable piece of land to start with. We also have Wardens on each site, who with their wealth of gardening knowledge, will be able to give you advice and answer any questions you may have.
We carry out regular inspections of the sites to ensure that plots are being managed by allotment holders, address any problems they may have and to make sure all is running well.
The Aylesbury Gardening Society was established in 1880 and is still going strong. One of their prime functions is to run the Thurston Trading Store, located on the Old Stoke Road allotment site. The store is open Sundays from 9am-12 noon, Thursdays from 6:30-8pm during April and May only. You will find all members ready and willing to help with all your gardening/allotments queries plus you can get all of your supplies from the store. The society also has a programme of events including outings, talks and their Annual Show. The membership fee is very reasonable.
The National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners offer a wealth of information and advice on getting started, planning your plot and gardening methods along with tips on what to do each month.
The National Vegetable Society is a leading horticultural society and registered charity for thousands of vegetable growers throughout the country. Visit the NVS website for help and advice.
Allotment deposit
Aylesbury Town Council will charge a repayable allotment deposit for all new tenancy agreements, including existing allotment tenants taking on a new tenancy agreement. The procedure for the allotment deposit scheme will be as follows: –
I. Prior to the start of a new tenancy agreement the new tenant will be expected to provide, in addition to their yearly fees, an allotment deposit, which will be set at an amount of £50.
II. At the start of the tenancy a photo of the allotment plot will be taken by the allotment officer, and the condition agreed with the incoming tenant.
III. The allotment officer will inspect the allotment plot prior to the termination date. The deposit will then be repaid in full to the allotment tenant within 2 weeks following the termination, provided that the condition of the allotment plot complies with the terms and conditions of the allotment tenancy agreement
IV. The deposit return will not take place if the allotment plot does not meet the standard set by tenancy agreement and contains for example any rubbish, tyres, debris, unauthorised vehicles, or parts thereof, unauthorised storage, unauthorised structures, derelict sheds, derelict cabins, derelict greenhouses and the like, which the Council will have to pay to remove.
V. If the Council intends to withhold repayment of the deposit, the allotment tenant will be informed in writing, together with an explanation of the reason for this. The allotment tenant will be given notice that they have 1 month in which to remediate the plot, or their deposit will be forfeited in whole or part.
Aylesbury Town’s allotments can only be let to the residents of Aylesbury Town Parish. If you live on Berryfields, Buckingham Park, Fairford Leys or Watermead, please contact your own Parish Council.
