On the Sunday nearest to St George’s Day (23 April) we celebrate England’s patron saint at our St George’s Day Historical Parade and Fayre. Next year’s event will take place on Sunday 27 April 2025.

In 2024, we kicked off our free events programme in style! Held on Sunday 21 April, residents gathered at Discover Bucks Museum, The King’s Head pub, and the historic Market Square to celebrate England’s patron saint.

The event commenced with a debut appearance by the newly appointed Bard of Aylesbury, Laike Twiss, who set the tone for a day filled with festivities. Attendees were treated to an entertaining performance of ‘Tales of the Roses’ by the local theatre company, Unbound Theatre, while families enjoyed medieval-themed crafts, activities, and games plus a reenactment group demonstrated an interesting insight into medieval life.

For the first time, the historic King’s Head pub joined the celebrations, hosting a pub quiz, medieval musicians, an arming of the knight demonstration, and the nationally acclaimed ‘Gilbert the Executioner’ show.

St George and his lady in waiting led the Grand Parade, closely followed by fire dancers from SDSD, Queens Park Art Centre’s dragon, Amersham Community Band, historical performers and representatives from Aylesbury’s Uniformed Youth including Scouts, Brownies and Military Cadets.
